That title's from a song: 'Don't quit, think about it brother, but don't quit'
Everybody reaches that point where they are thinking strongly about giving up. Sometimes that even means they're ready to give up on life. Don't give up on your life and career over something so silly and small as rejection. Love yourself and your life without condition. I know how hard it can be to get rejected time and time again.
For a long time I just wrote my stories, and looked for agent after agent. It didn't work out, turns out agents are a lot tougher to convince of your brilliance than your family and friends are.
I feel like God gave me a new approach all at once, in a flash. My audience stagnated for a long time. Then in less than a week's time I had, not only an audience of 88 people... but my audience was on a trajectory of more than doubling every day.
It's okay to think about giving up. Sometimes that's the moment where you give up on strongly held convictions and discover a better path. Don't give up on your dream, but give up on banging your head against a wall that won't collapse under your strength. Don't give up, but try a different, and hopefully better, approach.
[edit— I’m looking at this post years later. You know what… I did give up for a while. The rejection made me stand still. I think about all the books I would have under my belt if I hadn’t taken the rejection as finality. Yeah, we all get rejected…me, hundreds of times. But that rejection is just the beginning. You need that rejection, and it’s a painful process at first. Why? Because it is shattering your perfect and unrealistic view of yourself. That will only make you better.] I hope you enjoyed the blog and got something out of it.
